=== TCP Era === The situation between the U.S. and UASR became increasingly complex. After the cooperation between the U.S. and Arstotzka in wars against the Turkmen, relations between the West and Arstotzka - along with Northern Italy - improved significantly. This led to their inclusion in the Cross-Atlantic Union (CAU) on March 9th, which was major news at the time and brought a period of stability. However, on May 9th, 2021, the formation of the [[Atlantic Economic Union]] saw Arstotzka excluded from this new economic alliance. Arstotzkan officials perceived this as another attempt from the west to isolate and group up against the UASR, even leading to some Arstotzkan officials to suspect Americans of plotting and spying.<ref>#importantdiscussions, May 22nd 2021</ref> This series of events, including Northern Italy's decision to join the U.S., was met with mixed reactions among Arstotzkans. Some viewed it as a betrayal, further complicating the relations between the involved parties. American involvement in the Swedish-Yugoslav war in August of 2021 saw Arstotzkans and Swedes defeated by American volunteers, making matters even worse. Dudili, the leader of Sweden, decided to unify with the UASR shortly after. On May 24th, 2021, the UASR established its own developmental union called the Transcontinental Pact (TCP). Founding members included [[Brazil]], [[Denmark]], [[Portugal]], and [[Japan]]; while the [[Kingdom of Arabia]], [[Kazakhstan]], [[Bulgaria]], and [[Pontus]] joined later. The creation of the TCP was viewed by the west to be yet another betrayal, since Pontus and Brazil used to be former adversaries of both Arstotzka and America. In the ensuing months, a culmination of developmental rivalries, ideological differences, and long-standing toxicity led to a full-fledged cold war between the TCP and AEU. Both sides openly actively displayed hostility towards each other, engaging in propaganda and political announcements with the intention of irritating the opposing faction<ref>showcase, January 26th 2022</ref><ref>propaganda channel, UASR Discord, September 8th 2021</ref>. The conflict in Kashgar became a turning point as it drove the TCP and AEU into direct opposition. Tibet grew concerned about a potential invasion from Arstotzka and sought assistance from the AEU, leading to the deployment of American defensive troops in Tibet. In response, Arstotzka began amassing its own forces in Kashgar, interpreting the AEU's actions as hostile. The tension was eventually addressed through the Caruk-Kashgar treaty on January 21st, 2022, but this incident exemplified the overall volatility of the time. Subsequently, citizens of Tibet initiated an insurrection against at-the-time leader Bepis, joining Arstotzka instead. This led the AEU to suspect Arstotzkans' involvement in funding the rebellion. Bepis sought refuge in Texas, where temporary leadership was granted due to Matt's departure from the region a few weeks earlier, but after some time, Bepis lost interest and ultimately left Texas altogether. Tiki (Sugaravel) once again took on the role of the governor of Texas on February 7th.
